Victorians in Disguise – final installment

My last post on ‘Victorians in Disguise’ features Albert J. Cashier, alias Jennie Hodgers. Albert (Jennie) fought with the 95th Illinois Regiment at Vicksburg, Nashville and Mobile.

She lived as a man long after the war and it took fifty years, when Cashier was injured in an automobile accident, before she was discovered to be female. When questioned, she only admitted that she was of Irish birth and her real name was Hodgers.

From the book More Civil War Curiosities by Webb Garrison.
