Victorian Slang of the Week

Bay, as in “over the bay”—drunk 1787, thru mid century—the last reference to this was 1867,and it was a sailing reference.  I imagine it was mostly, then, an eastern reference since the West was still pretty sparse until the 1870’s or so.  Of course, the West has its own many, many terms for “drunk”.
