Victorian Slang of the Week

Bang—surpass, beat—1817, throughout the century.  Appears to have been used a lot, at least in written word.  Sometimes “bang-all” as in best or “bang Banagher”, or “bang the bush”.   As in, “he was bang-all with a pistol, but not much good with a knife” or “well that bangs anything I ever saw.”
