Things got hectic this week and I missed my regular posting day, so here’s a quickie post.
Among the supplies Union soldiers demanded, coffee was high up on the list. The beans were first ground into a fine powder, mixed with sugar and milk, which formed a thick paste. Add a cup of hot water to a spoonful of the paste and you have coffee on the go.
This was a crude precursor of what later would become instant or dehydrated coffee.
